SeedShare Library Group

Seed share group Seed share packets Club members provide seeds to SeedShare Libraries located in the Pleasanton Library and Livermore Library. The seeds are distributed free of charge to our Club members and to the community.

LAVGC members save seeds from their garden throughout the year. Our SeedShare group meets regularly to package up the seeds. Our seed inventory changes constantly throughout the year depending on which seeds are available in member gardens at particular times of the year.

Why do we do this?

Our choices for purchasing open-pollinated seed are becoming more and more limited. This SeedShare group aims to help by encouraging people to grow open-pollinated seeds and continue the art and tradition of seed saving. Saving heirloom-variety seeds will guarantee that these varieties continue to be good performers in our area. We welcome all open-pollinated seed that is not hybrid F1 in origin. Participation This service group is open to all club members; no experience is necessary. This group provides a great opportunity to get to know other garden club members as you all sit together packaging up seeds. You do not have to save seeds from your garden to participate.

Meeting times

Members typically gather together once a month to package up seeds and share a potluck lunch. See the LAVGC newsletter for meeting dates each month.
