Tomato Tasting 2013

Annual Tomato Tasting on the Terrace of Camp Arroyo

The view was perfect, the weather mild, but the wind was a challenge to the plastic tablecloths and the cups used for voting. Thanks to Terri Muir, Robbie Ridenour, and Tina and Norm Higashi for taping the cloths down and securing the cups so the tasting could begin. We had two guests join us this year, our new Foothill Diablo District Director Rebecca Ferguson and Rebekah Beans one of the camp naturalists. One thing is for certain-our current and past presidents can grow tomatoes, taking the paste and cherry categories by a storm. In the slicing category Lois Barber stole the show with her Great White tomato that received more votes than any other tomato on the table. The food category was a delight and all the dishes were yummy. Vernie Laube's Tomato Butternut Squash Gratin swept the polls and placed first. Second place went to our District Director Rebecca's delicious Tomato Peach Salad. The appetizer BLT made by Sue and Bill Farr won the third place and proves that everything tastes better with bacon! Runners up included a paneer korma, a vegetable tian, and a savory tomato pie.
